Venue Directions With Maps!

The Hoot started back in 1998 in the small, artsy fartsy community of
Cambria, California, on the southern footsteps of the Big Sur range.

Steven R See has been producing concerts and music on California's left
coast since 1973 having had the pleasure to present many, wonderful
performers
such as Kate Wolf, the Dillards, Ray Charles, Ronnie Montrose, Jerry
Garcia, Journey, John Fahey, Vince Gill and many others.

We now do most of our concerts in smaller, intimate venues ranging in
size between 70 to 275 seats.

The Cambria Hoot is much more than just a crass commercial attempt for a shot at picking your wallet. It's a community. No really, I'm not joking here! Many people and businesses contribute their time and talent to bring live music lovers like you the kind of entertainment not found anywhere else on the Central Coast. Dig it!

Big Band Sundays at Vina Robles
with the Cal Poly Jazz, Blues and Boogie Big Band under the direction of Paul Rinzler featuring vibraphonist
Charlie Shoemake

Charlie Shoemake

A graceful, bop-influenced vibraphonist, Shoemake started out as a pianist, and moved to Los Angeles in 1956 seeking a career in music. To make ends meet, he became a session musician. Shoemake had experimented with the vibraphone in high school, and under the influence of Victor Feldman, he began to pursue the instrument in earnest during the early '60s.

Although fundamentally a classicist, Shoemake is a jazz vibist who still believes in the value of a melody line and in harmony. Shoemake has a glistening sound, exquisite taste, and boppish sensibilities; his biggest jazz influence has been Charlie Parker, with Bud Powell and the ‘50s Sonny Rollins close behind.

Guests are encouraged to dress in vintage big band-era attire. A large dance floor will beckon veteran swing dancers and novices alike. Vina Robles wines and cheese plates will be available for purchase and enjoyment during the concert. Improve your dance steps with a complimentary workshop from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. with instructor Kara Frenzel.

Progressive Bluegrass Legends
The Greencards

The GreencardsConsidered a part of the progressive bluegrass ("newgrass") musical school, The Greencards draw from a wide variety of musical influences, ranging from Bob Dylan and the Beatles to the Celtic tone of Irish traditional music, gypsy themes, and Latin sounds.
Despite the wide array of influences that shape their music, The Greencards have always maintained a distinctively Americana sound, and while the various sounds that influence their work are always detectable, none ever dominate the band's music.
Their appeal has been attributed to both their "instrumental dexterity" as well as the manner in which they both revere and flaunt bluegrass conventions.
